Can you get a six-pack with general compound weights exercises?

Assuming your body fat is quite low, is it possible to get a good abdominal six-pack by only doing compound weights (i.e. bench press, squat, deadlift) or would you need to do proper abs work to get a decent look?

  1. Depending on the development of your abs, yes you can get there with just compund lifts. Compound lifts are the most metabolically taxing and if done in a manner that it keeps your heart rate elevated then they are just as effective as cardio for weight loss. Your abs are there, you just have to burn the fat off them. Keep intensity high and rest low and watch your diet, you should be fine.

  2. It wouldn’t hurt to do a little ab work but your core muscles are used in almost all the major lifts so yeah you can get a six pack without it.
